Thurrock Marching Brass Back in the Community for December 2016

Thurrock Marching Brass December 2016 – In the community

December was a very busy month for the young members of Thurrock Marching Brass as they engaged in an enjoyable schedule of events that saw them perform across the community.

First live performance of this year’s festive carols was on 4 December to entertain an appreciative gathering for the Essex Wildlife Trust, and although very brisk weather-wise the young members really showed their hardy spirit and got everyone into the festive spirit. Hot drinks, thick Christmas jumpers and hats helped but so too did the playground which allowed the members to warm up in true style.

On 10 December the members transported themselves to Orsett Village where they entertained everyone by playing parts of their 2016 program and some sing-along carols on stage. Another bitterly cold evening, and the rain made that feel worse but you just can’t stop these youngsters enjoying what they do and each and every one of them performed brilliantly well for all present.

The final commitment for December 2016 was Aveley Village who had organised a parade for Father Christmas down the high street, led by Thurrock Marching Brass. This was really well received by everyone along the route. With the sun shining, at the end of the parade the young members played some Christmas carols before heading back to the warm again.

Time to relax to close off the year with a party, and if there is one thing the young members know how to do it is to have a fantastic time with fun, games and food, especially with such a magnificent spread laid on by our amazing parent base. Fun and games, face painting and the annual ‘make the Corps Director look silly’ efforts were in full swing, turning him this year into a pirate. Secret Santa, gifts from TMB and sweets and food combined made the party one to remember.

Thurrock Marching Brass would like to thank all our community friends for inviting us to your events and we look forward to many more in the months ahead.

Speaking of the month, Corps Director, Jay Lindner said “We have missed out in previous years in getting into the community to play carols and to parade for them, but it has been a truly great opportunity for us this year to get everyone involved and to play music and expose the talents of the band and colourguard combined in the very community that we rely on for members. It is an important part of what we do and I look forward to many more of these local opportunities in the future. I would like to round off my comments by thanking my assistant corps director, my staff and all the parents and supporters for making 2016 such a memorable one. The family keeps growing, and the fun and laughter never gets dull so I can’t wait to see what 2017 brings. The experiences of 2016 have shown us that anything is possible if you believe, especially if you have some pure imagination!”
